Ingredients
1 can garbanzo beans (also called chickpeas)
1 clove garlic
3 tbsp. tahnini (You can find this sesame seed paste with international foods or peanut butter, depending on the grocery store.)
1 tbsp. olive oil
salt
1 lemon
water (optional)
Paprika (optional)
2 piece pita bread cut into wedges (optional)
1 medium cucumber
2 medium carrots
Preparation
Step 1Open the can of garbanzo beans. Strain the juice, and rinse the beans with fresh water. Put the beans into the blender.Step 2Add the garlic, tahini, olive oil, and salt to the blender or food processor. Next, squeeze the juice from the lemon into the blender. (A good trick is to hold your hand over the blender, and let the juice dribble between your fingers so you catch the seeds, or you can use a strainer.)Step 3Put the lid on the blender, and blend away! You’re going for a smooth mush. If you need to, stop the blender, and use the rubber spatula to push the ingredients off of the sides and into the center.Step 4If the mixture is too stiff, blend in a little water to thin it out.Step 5Scrape the hummus with the rubber spatula into a serving dish. You can sprinkle a little paprika on top. It looks cool and tastes great.
