Ingredients
2 tbsp. vegetable oil
1/4 c. popcorn kernels
1 to 3 tbsp. melted butter (optional)
Preferred seasonings
Preparation
Step 1In a large pot with a lid, heat oil over medium-high heat.Step 2Add a couple kernels and wait for them to pop. When they do, add the rest of the popcorn, cover, and cook, shaking the pan occasionally, until popping sound slows, about 3 to 4 minutes.Step 3Remove pan from heat and pour popcorn into a large bowl. Drizzle with melted butter if using, and season as desired.
Why shake the pan? Shaking the pan allows unpopped kernels to sink to the bottom of the pan, where they can come into contact with heat and pop. The more you shake, the less unpopped kernels! How much butter should I use? For this recipe, we find that the typical movie theater options of “light”, “regular”, and “extra” butter can be recreated with with 1, 2, or 3 tablespoons of melted butter, respectively. Add as much as your heart desires! Made this? Let us know how it went in the comment section below!
