Ingredients

3/4 c. granulated sugar

3/4 c. water

1 1/2 c. granulated sugar

3/4 water

1/2 vanilla bean, split

1 tbsp. dried lavender flowers

1/4 c. packed fresh mint leaves

1 1/2 tsp. rosewater

Peel of 2 lemons or limes

1/3 c. thinly sliced fresh ginger

Preparation

Step 1Add sugar and water to a small saucepan and place over medium heat. Bring to a boil and let simmer until sugar is completely dissolved, about 3 minutes.Step 2Optionally, add in flavoring and continue to simmer for 2 to 4 minutes more until fragrant. Remove from heat and let steep until syrup is completely cool, then strain.Step 3Pour cooled syrup into a clean jar or bottle and refrigerate up to 1 month.

This is an extremely versatile thing to have on hand, and you can flavor it in a hundred different ways with herbs, spices, or flowers. Because it’s just sugar and water and sugar is a natural preservative, store your syrup in a super clean and sterilized jar or bottle in the fridge and it will keep for months.
