Ingredients

1 large onion, sliced4 tablespoons butter, softened, divided8 slices Texas toast2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard1/2 pound thinly sliced deli ham1 medium apple, sliced4 slices Swiss cheese

Preparation

In a large skillet, cook onion in 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat until golden brown, 8-10 minutes, stirring frequently.

Spread remaining butter over 1 side of each slice of Texas toast. Place slices, buttered side down, on a cast-iron skillet or electric griddle. Spread with mustard; layer with ham, apple, onion and cheese. Top with another slice of toast, buttered side up. Cook over medium heat until golden brown, 3-4 minutes. Carefully turn; cook until cheese is melted, 2 minutes longer.
